Motorworld Köln – Rheinland and the
Michael Schumacher Private Collection
June 16-17, 2018, will see the opening not only of a new hotspot for petrolheads, but also of an exceptional event venue: Motorworld Köln – Rheinland at the historic Butzweilerhof airport, where the Michael Schumacher Private Collection will also be on permanent display.
Thanks to its wealth of tourist attractions, Cologne is always well worth a visit. With the opening of Motorworld Köln – Rheinland at the Nicolaus-August-Otto Park on the grounds and in the halls of the former Köln-Butzweilerhof airport – at that time the aviation hub of the West – the Rhine metropolis is enriched by an exceptional attraction. Plenty of space for mobile passion is being created on an area covering more than 50,000 square metres. Historical and modern treasures of mobility will breathe life back into the former airport. Owners of vintage and classic cars, classics-to-be, through to luxury cars and motorbikes, will have the possibility of storing their vehicles in fitting surroundings in glass boxes. Dealers in exclusive automobiles, specialised workshops, as well as shops for supplies and accessories, also await visitors.
Michael Schumacher Private Collection
On the public opening weekend (June 16 and 17), yet another automotive highlight will be opening at Motorworld Köln – Rheinland: the Michael Schumacher Private Collection. Significant portions of the legendary, seven-time Formula 1 World Champion’s personal collection will be on show here, on a display area of over 1,000 square metres. Admission is free seven days a week.
Strong tenants at Motorworld Köln – Rheinland
With the opening of Motorworld Köln – Rheinland, step by step tenants will be moving in and breathing life back into the historic Butzweilerhof: car dealers and workshops such as AnMark Classic Cars, Auto Levy, Bechtel Motorcompany, Bentley & Lamborghini Köln, Pon Luxury Cars, Mechatronik, Roock Racing and TÜV Rheinland, as well as shops operated by Grand Prix Originals, Special & Mr. Martini and Limora Oldtimer. Service providers abc finance and Deutscher Oldtimer Club will also be opening offices at the location. All of these and further tenants will literally fill the space at Motorworld Köln – Rheinland with mobile passion in its many facets.
For refreshments in between
Culinary specialities won’t come up short, either. Just in time for the summer holidays, Special & Mr. Martini, an Italian restaurant, will be offering cocktails to accompany their delicious Neapolitan pizza, fine homemade pasta, crisp salads and antipasti. Abacco’s Steakhaus will be attracting visitors with its premium-quality beef from cattle raised under species-appropriate conditions, and a quite special way of preparing it at the table. Lemonpie Event- und Messecatering and DEINspeisesalon already offer suitable refreshments during events and conferences.
Accommodation directly on-site
From the autumn, visitors wishing to spend more time at Motorworld Köln – Rheinland can stay overnight in one of the theme and design rooms at the V8 Hotel Köln @Motorworld. Perfectly in keeping with a weekend trip dedicated to the most beautiful hobby in the world, guests can even park their collector’s car right next to their room in one of the car suites. The themed rooms interpret mobile passion in an especially charming manner. Bearing names such as “Carwash”, “Workshop”, “Henry Ford” and “Ferdinand Porsche”, each of these rooms has its own unique interior design with an automotive feeling. For the hotel operator, fortuna hospitality GmbH & Co KG, Motorworld, the historic airport and the city of Cologne represent a particularly appealing combination. With their hotel, they want to allow guests to experience mobility overnight as well.
Versatile conference and event venue
Motorworld Köln – Rheinland also offers a broad range of opportunities for events small and large for between two and 4,000 people. Business incentives, congresses, trade fairs, conferences and seminars, as well as concerts or even film shootings, will also find a suitable locality here. The historic “Four-stroke hangar” is the jewel of the event venues at Motorworld Köln – Rheinland.
Up to 4,000 people can be accommodated in the former aircraft hangar. The conference and seminar rooms, between twelve and 350 square metres in size, also offer variable possibilities. All of the multi-functional rooms are technically perfectly equipped.
Mobility past, present and future
With Motorworld Köln – Rheinland, a fascinating bridge is being built between the past, present and future of mobility. For Cologne is the birthplace of a pioneering invention: In 1876, Nicolaus August Otto invented the four-stroke engine in the city’s Deutz district.
This marked the dawn of global motorisation. The site not only bears witness to this history of mobility on land, but can also look back on a rich aviation past. The majestic Zeppelin airships once found a home at Butzweilerhof in the early years of the 20th century. The airport was also where “Luft Hansa” was based in the 1920s, and, as the aviation hub of the West, was one of the leading international airports.
Visitors will be able to experience many highlights at the public opening weekend of Motorworld Köln – Rheinland. Alongside exceptional classic cars, classics-to-be, supercars and bikes, refreshments will naturally also be on offer. Attractions and a thrilling supporting programme dedicated to mobility will appeal to all the family. The starting signal will mark the inauguration of a new scene meeting place for people with petrol in their veins and anyone wanting to experience an exceptional location. Open all year round, admission for visitors to Motorworld Köln – Rheinland and the Michael Schumacher Private Collection will be free of charge. More space for mobile passion – the motto of the Motorworld Group – cannot be found anywhere else. And it will always be worth dropping by to see how Butzweilerhof is gradually transformed into a vibrant locality.

About the MOTORWORLD Group
The independent MOTORWORLD Group emerged from the Unternehmensgruppe DÜNKEL Holding based in Schemmerhofen (Baden-Württemberg, Germany). The origins of the family-run company date back to 1933. The Motorworld Group develops, builds and operates experience worlds dedicated to mobile passion.
The first location was Motorworld Region Stuttgart in Böblingen, which opened in 2009 and has since been expanded several times, winning several awards along the way. Further projects and activities under the MOTORWORLD® brand have been initiated in recent years. Following on with the same concept as Motorworld Region Stuttgart, Motorworld Köln – Rheinland opened in June 2018. Two further locations are currently under development: Motorworld München and Motorworld Zeche Ewald – Ruhr, Herten. The starting signal for the construction of Motorworld Mallorca is due to be given shortly.
The portfolio will be complemented by the Motorworld Manufaktur locations in Berlin, Metzingen, Rüsselsheim and Zürich. As their names suggest, the space for mobile passion at these locations will focus in particular on good old handicraft skills.
The Motorworld idea also regularly goes on tour, including to the annual classic car trade fairs Motorworld Classics Berlin and Motorworld Classics Bodensee in Friedrichshafen, as well as to scene events such as the Motorworld Oldtimertage at Fürstenfeld (near Munich), Motorworld HistoriCar in Duisburg (Ruhr region), as well as in numerous other guises.
